The best route to becoming a fully-qualified bus driver

The LIFFT training bus used for Cat D, standing in the car park

Once you have completed this course you will be able to drive any bus with more than 8 passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg. We offer a fully automatic bus – as used by Stagecoach – for training. Training and passing your test on an automatic still gives you a full manual bus licence provided you already hold a full manual car licence.
The course usually takes place over 2 days, and includes 10 hours training and the test.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there a demand for LGV, HGV, or PCV drivers?

Yes, there is consistently high demand for goods and passenger vehicle licence drivers in the UK. The demand has steadily grown with a shortage of articulated lorry and rigid truck drivers, meaning there is a gap in the industry to explore a long-term career. Opportunities within the travel industry are also opening up with a steady stream of new positions for minibus, bus, and coach drivers becoming available.
Many companies also provide opportunities for overtime and night allowances, allowing you to tailor your career to your specific needs.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, we offer payment plans with all of our training courses through Klarna. You can pay in full, 3 or 4 installments, delay the payment for 30 days or choose a longer-term finance option, making monthly payments with interest. You can train now and pay later, breaking down the cost of a new career into manageable payments. To learn more, explore our accessible payment options.

Can I complete my training locally?

We have training centres all across England and Wales for you to complete your training at, from Lincolnshire and Lancashire through to the Midlands and Herefordshire. See our dropdown at the top of the page to see all our training locations. If you’re travelling over 70 miles to your closest training centre, accommodation may be included (dependant on the course you're undertaking).

What happens if I fail my test?

If you fail your test, you can easily rebook with us. We do have a Pass Protection package available, which includes up to three retests.
