How It Works

Step 1

Medical

A medical will be booked on your behalf by our team. You will receive your licence upgrade pack when you come in (or we can help you order this online), including the paperwork that needs to be completed.

Step 2

Theory Revision

While you’re waiting for your licence to be approved by the DVLA, we’ll provide you with both face to face and online revision to help prepare for your theory tests.

Step 3

Theory Test

Once your licence has been returned, you can contact us to book your theory tests. This includes both the multiple choice, hazard perception, and CPC where required, with our team on hand if you need any support.

Step 4

Practical

Our team can now book all practical HGV training, test dates and any other relevant CPC training needed. We can offer convenient training locations across the UK.

Why Choose Category C1 Licence Training?

A C1 licence is the quickest way past van work and into better paid commercial driving. Here is what makes it worth booking:

Beyond Van Driving

A C1 licence takes you past the 3,500kg ceiling of a car licence and into proper commercial vehicles.

A Quick Route to Better Pay

Larger vehicles usually mean better paid work, and C1 is one of the faster licences to qualify for.

Stepping Stone to Category C

C1 builds the skills and confidence you need before moving up to the full HGV licence.

Always in Demand

From parcel firms to the emergency services, employers across the country rely on 7.5 tonne drivers.

What Can You Drive With a Category C1 Licence?

Think medium sized lorries and large vans, the kind used for parcel and retail deliveries, removals, horseboxes, recovery and event work. A C1 licence takes you past what a standard car licence allows and into proper commercial driving, often on local or regional routes that get you home most nights. It is also the natural first step towards a full Category C licence if you want to go further.

A Category C1 licence covers vehicles with a maximum weight between 3,500kg and 7,500kg, plus a small trailer up to 750kg. You can start training from age 18, as long as you already hold a full car licence.

Is there a demand for LGV, HGV, or PCV drivers?

+

Yes, there is consistently high demand for goods and passenger vehicle licence drivers in the UK. The demand has steadily grown with a shortage of articulated lorry and rigid truck drivers, meaning there is a gap in the industry to explore a long-term career. Opportunities within the travel industry are also opening up with a steady stream of new positions for minibus, bus, and coach drivers becoming available.

Many companies also provide opportunities for overtime and night allowances, allowing you to tailor your career to your specific needs.

Do you offer payment plans?

+

Yes, we offer payment plans with all of our training courses, including our Cat C1 licence training. You can pay in instalments directly with us or choose longer-term finance options. You can train now and pay later, breaking down the cost of a new career into manageable payments. To learn more, explore our accessible payment options.

+

We have training centres all across England and Wales for you to complete your Cat C1 licence training, from Lincolnshire and Lancashire through to the Midlands and Herefordshire. See our dropdown at the top of the page to see all our training locations.

+

* Pass Protection MUST be taken out prior to the start of your training. It cannot be added retroactively in the event of a test failure.
