FAQs

Can I do this if I've never driven anything bigger than a car?

+

Yes! Most of our drivers start exactly there. Your instructor has trained thousands of beginners. Our vehicles are modern, well-maintained, and specifically chosen to be learnable. The Taster Session exists for this exact reason - come and try it before you commit to anything.

How much does training cost, and how long before I earn it back?

+

If you want everything in one place, our Lifft Essential package is £2,495 for a complete Class 1 (C+E) qualification. It includes your initial CPC, pass protection, theory classroom training, medical, theory test, CPC Module 2 case studies, and DVSA question bank and hazard perception - everything you need to go from no experience to fully qualified, with no hidden extras.

A newly qualified Class 1 driver typically earns £30,000–£35,000 in their first year, rising to £38,000–£50,000 with a couple of years experience. Most people recoup the cost of training within a few months of starting work.

We also offer flexible payment options - spread the cost or delay payment until you're earning. Speak to our team and they'll walk you through the options.

What if I fail my test?

+

It happens - even to good drivers. We offer Pass Protection on our courses, which covers you for up to three retests. Your instructor will make sure you're genuinely ready before you sit the test, and if you need more time, we'll support you through it.

How long does the whole process take?

+

From starting your training to being job-ready can take as little as a few weeks. Our Class 1 course is a 6-day programme. The main thing that affects your timeline is getting your medical and theory test completed beforehand - we guide you through both as part of your course.

Will I actually be able to find a job afterwards?

+

Yes. Qualified drivers are consistently in demand across logistics, retail, construction, and public services. Many of our graduates have job offers before they've even finished their course. We can connect you with employers directly - speak to our team about what's available in your area.

I'm not sure which licence I need - where do I start?

+

The Taster Session is the best starting point. You'll get behind the wheel, meet our instructors, and get honest advice about which route is right for you - with no pressure to book anything else on the day. If you'd rather talk it through first, request a callback and one of our team will guide you.

Do your instructors actually know what it's like?

+

Every Lifft instructor has been through the same journey you're considering. They've trained from scratch, sat the same tests, and worked in the industry. They're not just qualified to teach - they know exactly what it takes, and what employers are looking for when you qualify.
